A PSL Lot Letter Has a Simple Fix

Port St. Lucie writes more overgrowth letters than any city we work. Thousands of its platted lots sit vacant, many owned from out of town, and the code office answers complaints. When a notice lands, we clear the cited growth to open ground, usually in one machine day, and photograph the result for your file.

We do this work every week as part of lot clearing around the city. The service itself is described on our code violation cleanup page, and the Florida process is covered in our overgrown lot violation guide. This page is about how PSL handles it. Call or text (561) 308-9776 with the notice and the address.

How PSL Enforces Vacant Lots

The city runs a program aimed at exactly this. A vacant lot can be cited when growth over 24 inches stands within 10 feet of a neighboring home's side or rear lot line. A courtesy letter comes first. If nothing changes, a certified Notice of Hearing follows and the case goes to a Special Magistrate.

Owners typically get 30 to 45 days to comply. Miss that and the city can clear the lot itself, bill the cost and record it as a lien on the property. At that point you pay their contractor's price instead of yours.

The Cleanup, Start to Finish

Send a photo of the letter and the lot address. We quote from that, free, and schedule with the deadline in mind. The machine grinds the cited growth into chips where it stands, and the lot comes back open and mowable.

One PSL detail matters here. Vegetation from a vacant lot cannot be stacked at the curb for pickup. The city treats curb piles as illegal dumping. Mulching in place avoids the issue, because the material becomes the ground layer and there is nothing to haul.

Closing the Case and Staying Clear

When the work is done you get dated photos of the cleared lot for the case officer. The city reinspects and closes the case on their side. Most letters ask for exactly what the machine produces: low, open, maintained ground.

The chip layer slows regrowth, and a periodic maintenance pass keeps the lot off the complaint list. If the citation involves a boundary, fence line clearing in Port St. Lucie handles the edges. The rest of our city work is on the Port St. Lucie page.

How fast can you clear a cited lot in Port St. Lucie?
Most PSL lots clear in one machine day once we are on site. Tell us your compliance date when you call and we schedule against it. Deadline jobs move to the front of the line.
What is the PSL 24-inch rule?
The city can cite a vacant lot when growth over 24 inches tall stands within 10 feet of a neighboring home's side or rear lot line. Tall grass and brush along the edges is what draws the letter. Clearing the lot resolves it.
Can you handle it if I live out of state?
Yes. Many PSL lot owners have never seen their lot. We work from the notice and the address, quote by phone or text, and send photos when the ground is clear.
What does a violation cleanup cost in PSL?
Lot size, growth density and access set the price, quoted free from the address. It is nearly always less than the fines, and far less than the city clearing it and placing a lien.
Will I be fined while I wait for the work?
The first letter is a courtesy notice with a compliance window. Fines come later, through the hearing process, if the lot stays overgrown. Clearing inside the window usually ends the case with no fine at all.
